In 2022 Ascension embarked upon a plan to renew its grounds. A small team attended a program with Pollinator Partnership Canada and is currently working to achieve the organization’s Pollinator Stewardship Certification. Our goal was—is—to make the grounds inviting to the neighbourhood and encouraging to wildlife.
Native trees, shrubs, perennials and grasses have been planted around the property, starting with new and existing beds on the front lawn. The north side of the church is having a do-over as a woodland area. The original compost heap out back has become a wildflower garden with bee-friendly nesting sites, and other native plantings have been made along the back fence. The south garden along the driveway continues to evolve as well.
We look forward to welcoming the birds, the bees, and you to our garden spaces.
